Zachary Walter Mesch was a wonderful inspiration to all those who he met. Zach was first diagnosed with Lymphoma when he was 16. After a protracted battle, Zach was declared cancer free in November 2007. He graduated from high school in the spring of 2008 and headed off to Wichita State University (WSU). While at WSU, Zach performed as the University’s beloved mascot, WU, and took an active role in the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
In November of 2009 Zach returned from WSU for Thanksgiving break. While at home, he visited Children’s Hospital for a check-up. The results of which showed his cancer had returned as he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Determined to fight and win again, Zach started an aggressive treatment regimen.
Looking to help, Zach's family and friends came together to organize a fundraising walk aimed at helping offset his medical costs. Zach loved the idea of the run and was moved by the showing of support. It was Zach's hope that this would become an annual event to benefit other young adults in similar situations.
Zach battled Leukemia courageously for the next seven months until his passing the morning of July 4th, 2010. His family started Zach’s Wishes for Miracles (ZW4M) to honor his memory and fulfill his wish of helping others fighting the good fight.
Zach’s Wishes provides uplifting experiences to young adults ages 18-23 fighting for their lives. We wholly believe these experiences can and do make life better for both the young adult and their family at a time when it matters most.
